January Pitch Day

On the 30th of January we kicked off our 1st pitch day of 2025 at AfricaWorks Lusaka, featuring four incredible businesses tackling real challenges with innovative solutions.

Freshpoint Fruit & Vegetables Ltd:  A farming and aggregation business bridging the local fruit & vegetable supply gap with modern, sustainable technology.

Abridger: A comprehensive education management software enhancing administrative efficiency, teacher-student engagement, and data-driven decision-making.

Gaphen: An Agri-tech company empowering smallholder farmers with climate-smart solutions to boost yields and market access.

Thussa Travel: A seamless online platform for bus ticket booking & hotel reservations, making travel more convenient. 🚌

February Pitch Day

In February we hosted our second pitch day featuring three businesses from diverse sectors. We heard from BargnBay, an online marketplace and delivery platform that connects consumers to vendors in traditional markets. They are working to reduce crowding in markets, mitigate inconsistent product pricing and time constraints.

The second pitch was from Interweb Technologies, a business that is driven by their passion for solving a challenge they have experienced for the past few years; The lack of accessible housing due to high rents and a lack of roommate-matching services, has driven them to commit to delivering seamless solutions for others encountering the same issue in the future.

Lastly we heard from Lemon ZM, a business that is set on meeting the lack of accessible monetization options, restrictive global payout systems, and the untapped potential of African creators. They are committed to building a platform that puts creators first, provides seamless payment solutions, and promotes a thriving digital economy in Africa.

Fresh Point Fruit & Veg Farm Visit

After pitching to ZBAN in January, Fresh Point Fruit & Veg captured the attention of several investors, sparking interest in their business. As part of our standard due diligence process, investors recently visited the Fresh Point farm to see the operations firsthand.

The visit was a great experience, offering investors a deeper understanding of the company’s growth potential, sustainability practices, and impact in the agricultural sector. Witnessing Fresh Point’s commitment to quality produce and efficient farm management reinforced investor confidence and excitement about future opportunities.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to support businesses driving Zambia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem forward.

March Pitch Day

On the 27th, we hosted our third Pitch Day of the year at Africaworks Lusaka, proudly sponsored by Microfinance Zambia. We heard from three businesses operating in different sectors, on a mission to solve problems that are at the heart of their customers.

ComGrow:  A fintech startup on a mission to digitize community savings groups in underserved markets. By making group savings and lending more secure, efficient, and scalable, they’re tackling financial inclusion challenges head-on.

Mi-Minds: A company revolutionizing the mining and construction industry through smart devices and automation systems. Their technology enhances safety and security for workers in industries like mining, agriculture, and security.

Smile Money: The ‘happy people’ behind a fintech solution tackling high fees, outdated tech, and slow settlements that hinder financial inclusion. Their goal? To empower women, youth, and small businesses to thrive in Africa’s growing digital economy

We are grateful to our sponsor and the incredible entrepreneurs shaping the future.

Entrepreneur Spotlight- Promaid

Promaid’s Growth Journey: Scaling Up with ZBAN

Three years ago, Idah Gondwe turned her passion for cleaning into a business, launching Promaid (formerly Door to Door Perfect Cleaning). What started with two employees quickly grew to four and kept growing, she now has 12 employees  serving both residential and commercial clients. However, scaling came with challenges, rising transport costs, the need for better training, and securing a dedicated office space.

After expanding to Lusaka, Idah faced new challenges, including finding a training center for her promaids. Through ZBAN, she pitched and secured investment and mentorship, leading to the establishment of a professional office and training space. This milestone is key to her goal of increasing monthly revenue while also improving service quality.

Her next steps include, targeting more neighborhoods in Lusaka to reach 100 customers, enhance customer service training, and maintain strong investor communication. She’s also exploring advertising and social media sponsorships to drive growth.

With a focus on quality service and referrals, Promaid is on track to becoming Zambia’s premier cleaning service. Idah’s journey showcases the power of persistence, strategic partnerships, and smart investments in business growth.
